Ramona Güntert, (b. 1989) is a German - Swiss artist and educator based in London. Her practice looks at forms and shapes within nature which are mimicked by bodies of human and animals. She then uses the medium of photography, challenging its existence in print and exploring different material conditions. Her work is constantly transforming and adapting to different spaces, just like camouflage, which emphasises a relationship between the body and its environment but also attempts to question what lies in-between these spaces. These images appear in layers, becoming the skin of the space.
Guntert is interested how such images exist in reality, and how they can slip between repulsion and desire. And ultimately appear as fiction. Her process of image making, is about creating a feeling or a taste of something with the intention making an audience think about their own body and their relationship to others.
Recent exhibitions include Lattice, Filet, 2024, Agritourism, Gunia Nowik, 2024, Preconscious Landscape, Ainalaiynspace, 2023, and then it breaks, Equivalentbehaviour, 2022, What on Earth, Koppel Project, 2021, can we dance again, 2021, SW Darkroom, Chapters, 2020, Sankt Studio Berlin, Peckham 24, 2019, COOP, Unseen Amsterdam, 2018.
She was a selected participant at Fotomuseum Winterthur Plattforms, 2019 and an invited artist of Parallel Platform (EU funded), 2018, showing across Europe at Format Festival Derby, Triennale at Deichtorhallen Hamburg , Landskronafoto, Organ Vida Zagreb. Her work was featured in Linseed, Der Greif, Tjejland, Photomonitor and nominated for the Magnum Graduate Award 2017.
In 2023 the artist explored bio materials during a residency at Aldama Fabre Gallery in collaboration with Material Driven and Bilbao Arte. During 2022 Guntert contributed to Hyperspace by Irruptive Chora (ACE funded), finding new ways of collaboration, which launched at Iklectik London, 2023. She had a residency at Kaunas Gallery, 2021 and with LAPC at Guest Projects and at the old CSM building with Koppel Project. And was invited in 2020 to be part of the LCN with Space studios exploring ideas of process and material in teaching. And at Margaux Bonopera` L`opéra home responding to the space with analogue process, 2018.
Since 2019 she is a visiting lecturer at the institutions like Royal College of Art , Arts University Bournemouth, Manchester Metropolitan University and Falmouth School of Art. And she teaches analogue modules at University of West London and Canterbury Christ Church University and at a community space, SW Darkroom. In 2020 the artist started a collaborative teaching project with Sotiris Gonis, feeling the ground, focusing on creating workshops about image making, sound and space. In 2023 she started teaching together with Steff Jamieson LAL Step Up, an adult learning photography course at Photofusion.
